Common questions

Where are my memories stored?

On your device. If you turn on iCloud, they sync through your own private iCloud account so your other Apple devices see the same memories. Trace runs no server of its own and never receives a copy.

Does Trace send my data anywhere?

No, with one narrow exception: when you save a link, Trace can fetch that page's preview so the memory is not just a bare URL. It sends only the URL you saved. It has no ads, no analytics, and no tracking.

How does it read screenshots and spoken notes?

On your device. Text recognition, transcription, and answering questions about your own memories all run locally. Nothing is sent to Apple or to us for this.

How do I delete a memory?

Open the memory and choose Forget. It is removed from your device, and from your private iCloud if sync is on.

What does "the first year is on us" mean?

Exactly what it says. This version of Trace has no payments in it at all, nothing expires on its own, and nothing can start charging you. If that ever changes, Trace will tell you before it does.

Which permissions does Trace need?

All optional. Microphone and Speech for spoken capture, Photos to read a screenshot you hand it, Calendar and Reminders to schedule a memory you act on, and Face ID to lock your Vault. The app works if you decline every one. Trace does not use the camera.
